Frequently asked questions

Some questions and answers are automatically generated.

What does this store specialize in?
This store specializes in premium whole-food supplements, functional health products, and raw or gently prepared dog and cat foods made from natural ingredients. The catalog focuses on supporting digestive health, immune function, joint mobility, skin health, and overall vitality through species-appropriate nutrition and carefully formulated botanical and probiotic blends.
What materials and sourcing standards are used across your raw pet food products?
Our manufacturing partner, Four Roots Pet Products, sources ingredients for our raw pet food from Canadian-inspected facilities that supply the human-grade food chain. The only exception is our green tripe—because while people won't eat it, dogs absolutely thrive on it.

Using human-grade sourcing means your pet food comes with built-in safety standards from the start. It also means our pricing reflects real market costs and availability. Ground beef for consumers in Alberta typically costs $6 to $10 per pound, so if you're comparing raw beef pet products priced significantly lower than regular market meat, that's worth asking your supplier about—those lower prices usually signal different sourcing standards and origins.
What probiotics does this store carry, and how do they differ?
The store carries multiple probiotic formats: soil-based probiotics for hardy, heat-resistant strains; yeast-based probiotics that survive antibiotics; species-specific blends formulated for dogs or cats; and complete fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) capsules containing full microbial communities to restore gut health and address common health issues.
Do you offer food options for dogs with allergies or sensitivities?
Yes, we have several options for dogs with allergies or sensitivities. Our Four Roots product line offers limited-ingredient raw meals with single proteins including beef, chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, and rabbit. We also carry freeze-dried whole-food diets and gently cooked options. Many of these are free of common allergens and fillers and are designed for elimination diets. We also stock supporting supplements that address yeast, inflammation, and gut healing.
What omega-3 and fatty acid options are offered?
We carry fish-free and fish-based omega supplements including green-lipped mussel oil with ETA (unique to mussels), ahiflower oil high in GLA and SDA, algae-based DHA and EPA, and whole raw fish products. These are positioned as alternatives to standard fish oil, offering superior bioavailability and sustainability.

How is the raw food packaged?
The raw food is packaged in 1 pound tubes similar to what you might find hamburger in at the grocery store. This helps maintain product quality and prevents freezer burn. The tubes are stored frozen and delivered frozen. The individual tubes are packaged into a box weighing 10 or 40 pounds for delivery to your door.
What is your return policy?
We want you and your dogs to be happy with what you buy from us. If your pup has an unexpected allergy or isn't interested in the food, we can help.

Unopened frozen food can be returned within two weeks of delivery for a refund of the original product price minus a 30% return fee. When you return it, please repackage it in a closed box with our name clearly marked on the outside—not in plastic bags. Leave it outside by 9 am on your scheduled pickup day. Food that hasn't been packaged properly or has completely thawed can't be returned.

These items are final sale: 10 lb boxes of raw pet food, all raw food variety boxes, opened packages of treats, dry food, bones, goat milk, eggs, and chews.

We offer a 60 day guarantee on Four Leaf Rover, Adored Beast, Mine Pet Platter, and Animal Biome products. If your pets don't respond well to them, return the unopened, unused product within 60 days for a full refund, and we'll cover shipping.

Gut Health Tests and Mine Pet Platters must be unopened and unused to qualify for returns.

To arrange a return, call us at 877-494-0682 or email info@granddog.ca.
What home-prepared or raw diet solutions does the store offer?
The store provides complete raw meal blends with balanced meat, bone, and organs; base mixes to customize with your own protein; freeze-dried meal toppers; organ-only supplements; whole-food ingredient options like herring and tripe; and comprehensive guidance on balanced nutrition. These support both adult dogs and puppies transitioning to fresh feeding.

Nutrition as Nature Intended

Every animal has a biological blueprint for what they should eat. Our raw diets honor that requirement, providing easy-to-digest, natural ingredients.

The main difference between a raw diet and kibble is the type of proteins used.

A raw diet prioritizes the use of quality meat products along with fruits and vegetables. Kibble relies heavily on plant proteins and starches.

We believe that a diet high in quality meat proteins supports your dog's health holistically by offering proteins their system was designed to digest.
